After 40 years of renting from Shoreline School District, Shorenorth needed to find a new landlord and the search is finally over! Seattle Lord of Glory church (19931 Forest Park Dr NE in Shoreline) had a quiet little education building that they use on Sundays that they are willing to lease to us M-F. The church leadership is very focused on family and are so excited about us filling the space with families, education and community! They generously have offered to let us use their fellowship hall on scheduled community events/parent ed nights, will permit us to park our huge container on the property, and come June we can remodel, paint and transform the space into a wonderful environment for children. Generosity is mentioned because they are not charging us rent until September 1st! It is a smaller space than we have had the past 7 years, but we look forward to building closer community and getting to “manage” and clean less space, giving us more time together and with our children.
The lease has been signed! Shorenorth officially has a new home this Fall, at Seattle Lord of Glory Church (formerly Myong Sung Presbyterian Church) at 19931 Forest Park Dr NE in Shoreline.
An update on the recapture was included with the January 2016 Newsletter:
Shorenorth Relocation Update: It’s a new year and the start of some NEW beginnings. I am happy to say after quite a few site visitations and meetings with the college, school district and other directors in the building (of all the programs in our hallway), Shorenorth is now beginning to have some choices of where we will be able to move next year!
There are a few very nearby churches who want to welcome any type of community into their space, we have two realtors “out there” looking for us and the school district has made us a new temporary offer. Myself and the two other co-op directors met with Asst Superintendent of Shoreline Schools Marla Miller Dec. 20th and she offered us an extension of a move out date. From June 1st to August 31st! Then she also listened to us telling her how difficult it was in Shoreline and LFP to find another site with so little time and she will recommend on the January 11th School Board Meeting to let us lease temporary space in the Shoreline Center. 185th and 1st Ave NE. We had a deadline of January 7th to let her know if we were interested and all the tenants in our hall way said yes. We will not stop looking for a better place that we enjoy more, but it is a wonderful secure thing to know that we do have one sure thing. If we do find something we like better, we will give immediate notice and not go to Shoreline Center. In the meantime, bring on regular registration for next year because we will have an address folks!
Another dream that our 3 co-ops have set in motion is the idea of an Early Childhood Center! This may be 3-5 years down the road but there never has been a riper time for Early Childhood to receive assistance for the crucial role we play in education. Again, we spoke to the district(who own most properties in the city of Shoreline) and they mentioned that the Cedar Brook site(Perkins Way) may be perfect for our needs. Yes, this is “Pie in the Sky” talk but when we are talking pie with city officials, king county, presidents of the college, legislators and senators…and they are all getting excited about it, then we have to keep the conversation and dream going.
Please look forward to learning how the job of moving is going to be distributed fairly by us all and even be enjoyable!! Can you say, “Toss and Tidy???”
